Major research fields:

  • The morphology and ultrastructure of sensory organs, the respiratory and reproductive organs of fish, amphibians, and arachnids. Genetic variation of amphibian and fish populations.
  • Human ontogeny, genetics and etology, historical anthropology.
  • The structure and function of muscles, computer analysis of microscopic images.
  • The endocrinology of reproduction, physiology of the blood and hemopoietic system, electrophysiological and pharmacological investigations of centres regulating biological rhythms, biological activity of lectin, interdependence between hypothalamus and lymphatic system and thymus, analysis of oligosaccharide structure of glycoproteins, investigations of circardian rhythm of lysosomal hydrolases.
  • The effects of genetic factors on mouse gametogenesis.
  • The effects of heavy metals on mouse reproduction.
  • The reaction of brain tissue to injury and irradiation, role of cytokines in neuro-glial interactions, quantitative morphology of glial cells.
  • Biology of invertebrate development, fauna of Poland.
  • Biology of rodent reproduction.
  • Evolutionary immunology.
  • Microevolutionary diversity and taxonomy of mollusca.
  • Ethology of insects.

The major achievements:

  • Demonstration of the influence of paternal genome imprinting on the frequency of X-Y chromosome disjunction during meiosis in male mouse.
  • Application of the confocal microscope for analysis of gap junctions in uterine myometrium.
  • Demonstration of the influence of temperature and stress on immunity of poikilothermal animals.
